The Importance of Color

Part 1: Preparation

Many people take life for granted and claim that the world is bland, or lacks vibrancy in life. But have you ever pictured what the world would become if color did not exist?

This natural connection we hold between color and emotion determines many of our decisions daily.

This is based on your personal experiences with the color, its cultural associations, as well as the science behind how we perceive color. It holds power over your feelings and can control thinking, change actions and cause reactions.

Color helps us communicate, both through our ideas and emotions, but more importantly through our everyday interactions. An immediate response is gained from the viewer when colors are introduced within our daily life tasks, personality displays, media engagement, and design relationships. Ultimately, colors help us navigate the world around us and add richness to our lives.

Part 2: Display & Process

The design theory behind caspstone was to show the importance of color in our every day life as compared to the opposing side where everything is dull without color. Through the information, the experience could be described as looking at the world through unfiltered eyes. Things are very dull in comparison and offer no chance of expression or variety. Overall, the goal is to prove that life isn’t in fact, boring.

Our given prompt for the capstone thesis was to take a subject that we were passionate about, could research thoroughly, and could relate it back to design.
